Design & Verification of Complex Bus Interface Unit for Set Top Box

Customer

A major global player in set-top box market

Project Background & Challenges

QualCore supported the client in design and verification of Bus Interface Unit(BIU) and Bus Bridge to be used in a SOC for set-top box.

Although medium-sized in terms of gate-count, the design was significantly complex owing to wide range of interfaces that BIU unit was to be interface with. The external buses supported by BIU were - PCI, 68K, PPC823E, CF5206/CF5307, Hitachi, SH4, SH1, Synchronous Flash, EIDE, PCMCIA, JTAG/Debug Controller The design was implemented in 200K gate count (without memories), operated at 150MHz and was implemented in TSMC 0.18µ.

Scope of work

  • RTL design in Verilog
  • Verification using Synopsys Simulation Tool VSS, Bug tracking using Bugzilla
  • Total Team Size of 22 comprising Engineers, Project Leads and Project Managers

Achievements

QualCore completed the design on a fast-track schedule in 4 months. Client was extremely pleased      with the quality of design as well as the overall project management methodology of QualCore.
